| Scholarship Program
Purpose:
- To recognize the academic achievements and
community involvement of high school seniors
- To heighten the community’s awareness of
talented minority young men and women
- To provide incentives for young men and
women who have maintained high moral standards
and scholarship
Application Process:
THE APPLICATION PROCESS IS DONE ANNUALLY, DURING THE
SPRING OF EACH YEAR, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
BACCALAUREATE COMMITTEE OF BROWARD COUNTY.
The applicant must complete and submit an
Application Form and a Portfolio as described in
the Portfolio Presentation section below.

- Leadership
- Extra-curricula activities, including
awards, accomplishments and recognitions
Portfolio Presentation: The purpose of the portfolio is to
give prospective scholarship awardees an
opportunity to showcase their achievements and
talents to the community. The completion of a
portfolio is one requirement that must be met to
qualify for the scholarship award.
- The portfolio must include evidence of the
following:

Academic Achievement Provide evidence of achievement
(e.g., transcripts;
report cards showing cumulative GPA). In addition, any awards and recognitions you have
received may be included.
Use supporting documents to explain the importance and
magnitude of major awards and recognitions.

Extra Curricula Activities, Clubs, Other Awards,
Accomplishments Or Recognitions List or show evidence of all that apply.
- Applicant Essay:
The portfolio must include your one-page essay in
which you indicate how receiving a Broward Black
Elected Officials’ Scholarship would be beneficial
in advancing your career goals.
- Faculty/Community Leader Recommendation:
The portfolio must include a letter of
recommendation from a faculty member, school
administrator or a community member who can attest
to your involvement and accomplishments. This letter
should be on the letterhead of the recommending
entity and must include the signature of the person
who has written the letter.
- Supporting Documentation May Include:
- News Articles
- Certificates

Congratulatory Letters
- Copies of Programs
- Pictures with narrative statements explaining your
involvement
- Thank You notes or letters
- Title Page:
The portfolio must include a title page listing
your:

SCHOOL
AGE
- The Portfolio Must Be
Presented in a Binder.
