News and Events
The Gala 2010This
lavish event, designed as a Black History Month
finale, is our signature fund-raising event, which
provides much-needed funds for our 501(c)(3)
non-profit foundation, supports community outreach
programs focused on educational development and
wealth building, and has raised tens of thousands of
dollars for scholarship funds, grants to coll eges,
and underwriting community activities.
The theme for the 2010 benefit is “Our Legacy.”

BBEO Supports Pantry of Broward Holiday Food Drive
The Broward Black Elected Officials brought some
holiday good tidings recently to The Pantry of
Broward, a new non-profit organization that serves
County seniors and seniors raising their
grandchildren. Led by President M.
Margaret Bates, a Lauderhill commissioner, the BBEO
presented the Pantry with funds to purchase turkeys.
The turkeys were distributed free to senior citizens
during Christmas week. The BBEO’s State Rep. Hazelle
Rogers and its immediate past president, Levoyd
Williams, joined Commissioner Bates for the
presentation.
The group was given a tour of the facilities,
visited the holiday toy closet for grandchildren and
even helped dress teddy bears to be donated to young
children. “Many thanks for a generous donation,”
Loughan said in a letter. “We are looking forward to
working more closely with the Broward Black Elected
Officials on some of the issues that need to be
changed . . .to help Broward’s needy seniors and
grandparents raising their children.”
The Broward Panty is located at 610 N.W. Third
Avenue, near Sistrunk Boulevard.
